Horse evaluations... extra hands pics
This Horse Loves to RunMy daughter's horse had his 90day evaluation yesterday....
He is part Arabian and I think he looks like the carousel horses
you see in the park!
He did pretty well, but he really loved it when he was
told to run or turn sharp,
lol he's VERY good at turning sharply!!Daughter getting ready to try another saddle!
and just for fun....

How fun!
Oh, he is beautiful! I just love the colors in that last shot. Is that photoshopped in some way?
@songoftheheart - yes, it's the same as the almost b&w photo except the saturation and vibrancy are taken almost to the max...
I used photoshop to straighten my horizon in some of these and adjust saturation back to pretty much what I saw, but in that one the max levels were so pretty I left them there.
Really, I'm just looking at the coloring on his body, and the enhancements just make him more gorgeous! That really is a cool photo! Nice job!
@songoftheheart - Thanks Jo!!
it's funny how the "trainer" in me notices your daughter's hands first ... she's got good hands and is "feeling" her friend ... good stuff!! [oops ... maybe that's not your daughter in the saddle?]
@windupherskirt - well, those are the trainer (our friend's son) but I'm glad to hear it!!
He has ridden the horse a lot. I might have to add a pic of my daughter in the saddle and see what you think?
I'm told she has a good seat...
@Tempguestbrief - after i looked at your daughter's t-shirt and the rider's t-shirt, I thought "uh oh" ... that's not the same person ...
... and when I looked again, I thought the rider's hands were a man's ... having good sensitive feeling hands and a good seat (translation: being with your horse) are important!!
@windupherskirt - I added some pics of my daughter here.
thanks
@Tempguestbrief - of course, it is hard to really "see" from a still photo ... and i'm in "teacher" mode (holy caramba!) ... she looks like she is "seated" toward the back of the saddle (what is the seat size of this saddle?) ... find out if she might be more comfortable seated in the "flattest" part of the saddle (the center or middle?) ... the best position is where you would be if you are riding bareback (for her and the horse) ... I don't know how much experience your daughter has ... there should be enough space between her butt and the saddle the width of her palm (say 3"?) ... her knees should be slightly bent (just enough to give her that "palm" between her butt and the saddle) ... she should try to "ride in the bottom of her stirrups" ... translation: the balls of your feet (not the middle of your foot) should be on the stirrup pad, and always sort of "stand" in the stirrups (it's for her balance, being "light in the seat" [keeping her butt off his spine], and exerting "feel" for the horse) ... TMI? i'll shut up now!
@windupherskirt - she's using a western saddle here but was trained on an english riding. I'm not sure how to guage how much experience she has had. She has had four years of riding instruction and it's all been english. The trainer only does western riding so she has used his saddle and the stirrups are as short as they can make them and still are a little long for her (she's quite petite for 16). I'm sorry, the saddle belongs to the trainer and I don't know what size it is. the horse is an arabian/something and has a small rump and short body but sits about 15.5 hands? kind of you to get your "trainer" side out for a moment!
@windupherskirt - and you know, I think she does stay up off the saddle a little bit but it might be hard to see because of her loose skirt.
Arabians are quite elegant in appearance, and firecrackers in spirit! He's a beauty~
Your daughter, must be so tickled to have such a lovely equine, and friend.
Wonderful shots and editing, too!
The horse looks vivid and obedient. He is as beautiful asyour daughterthat leads him
My daughter raises horses and drives them too . I believe you know this .
Love
Michel
@WildWomanOfTheWest - Thanks Tamy!!
@fauquet - Thank you Michel! Our daughters both love horses!!! I love finding something my children love to do and helping them get involved in it!! <3
He is majesty in true form. Beautiful horse and does have many Arabian qualities.
He is simply stunning!
@Tempguestbrief - i never rode english (they do ride different i think) nor ridden an Arabian (supposedly they have a "flat back" - ??) and know a smidge about dressage .. but what I shared are just some tips I learned that helped me be a better rider ... better for me and for my horse ...
another tip is to ride in reasonably form-fitting jeans or denim long pants (not loosey goosey) as they help you "grip" the saddle leather (be more confident) and always always smooth soled riding boots (no sneakers) with just enough heel to stop your foot from sliding through the stirrup ... your trainer probly knows all this ...
her hands are in the right position, maybe try a little more rein slack between her hands (maybe another couple of inches? it should give her a closer "feel" to the horses' mouth without having to wrangle or wrench her upper body around when she picks up on a rein to ask her horse to respond ... and guide with her hands (not her upper body -- you do use your upper body but mostly your butt and legs to "be with the horse's body" and "guide") ... try to not lean forward, sort of sit on your "cheeks" not your butt bones, but straight up from the waist ... balance can be a tough thing to get down but when you do, ain't nuttin better !
What a pretty pony. I would love to ride that steed.
@vexations - thanks for the rec!!
@windupherskirt - Denise, thank you so much for going to all this trouble. I'll pass it on to my daughter and her riding instructor.
@Tempguestbrief - no trouble at all (i love technical stuff) ... my pleasure ... maybe your daughter can make sense of some pieces ...
LOVE this post. Lovely horse. I hope to own one, one day. Glad your daughter is getting an opportunity to ride and have fun.
Holy shit!! I am so jealous right now!!!
That horse is a beauty. I want him!!
I'm gonna need a lot of beers after seeing this post!! LOLOL
@stephensmustang - thank you! she loves it!! Opportunities come up at the oddest times... We resisted thinking about getting a horse soooo long but finally it was offered to us almost free and then a friend's son offered us a special deal, since he needed practice in his chosen field.. and this is what happened!!
@Bricker59 - I hope that's GOOD....
we would share if we were a little closer. Best I can do is lots of pictures...unless they bother you too much? Thanks Thom!! Hope these days are being good to you?
WOW ~ he is absolutely gorgeous!!
He's so beautiful!
Beautiful horse
That is a beautiful horse,, and you're right.....it does look like a carousel horse, especially in the 4th picture.
@ata_grandma - thanks
as a girl I always named my imaginary horse Stranger

@nattata - Thanks! He's a nice horse too.
